You should center skill builds around COMs, and I mean offensive COMs, like Specter, Mercenary, Tempest, Tormentor, Plaguebearer, and Firefly. Your build also differs based on the situation. Lilith is all around good, and places more emphasis on the elemental system than the other characters. That said, you also have phasewalk and SMGs if you want to go in a different direction. Mordecai is really good if you can hit the very generous BL critboxes with your weapon of choice.

They're all really strong, and every class is equally viable. Raw DPS at level 69 however, Brick with the right build is the best, followed by Lillith. HOWEVER: DON'T play BL1 like BL2.
