This hammer upgrade is a game changer. Now for many many reasons, with weapons many little rapid fire hits are better then 1 big slow hit. Many hits. Many hits mean more poison stack, more chance to Crit and most importantly more skill recharges. So that's all to say base hammer without any upgrades is pretty trash.

I think a spear would be a good addition for an in-between weapon . I find the bow is a great skill weapon since rapid-shot reset your cds easily. I think a spear would add in some really rewarding gameplay, similar to the lancers it could have a short lunge as a charge attack and a quick poke or a sweep as a normal attack.Outfits.
