Basically, the Metaverse lore of DDLC Plus give mods a nice layer of nuance: The original game is a simulation which has been modified as a dating sim game to make it more interactive. Thus, mods are runs of the simulation with different variables that change things, even with different purposes. When it comes to DDLC, the one thing the Metaverse lore undermines is the original conceit of the game; that it was a dating sim where one character 'woke up' and ruined everything. It's been given new context which makes the experience less personal, but I don't think it ruins any of the really important parts of the whole thing.
